Enables Carteret County to restore a beach and dune system to mitigate erosion problems impacting U.S. Navy infrastructure on Radio Island. The project will further enhance installation readiness for JEB Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia which uses Radio Island in North Carolina for Landing Craft Utility operations. Constructs a Children's Discovery Center featuring Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). The closest similar facility is located 300 miles away in Manitoba, Canada. The project meets the needs of military families in a remote/rural location by providing interactive exhibits, enrichment opportunities, engaging interactions, and quality programs encouraging parent involvement in child development. Enables the City of Springfield to construct a facility to house the National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence at Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport. The project will enhance the military value of Wright-Patterson AFB by creating a facility where industry, academia, and government meet to research, develop and test advanced air mobility technologies (electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles) for commercialization and future military application. Enables the City of Portsmouth to add a travel lane along Effingham Street. This project will enhance installation readiness at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth by reducing queueing along a critical roadway where 5,000-6,000 personal vehicles and 70 commercial vehicles enter the main gate each day. Enables the Kitsap County Public Works Office to replace an aging sewer force main. The project will enhance installation readiness of NB Kitsap (Bangor & Keyport) by reducing the risk of failure for the existing main that the installation relies upon as the sole source of wastewater service. Enables the Port of Everett to rebuild and expand the fuel dock at the Port of Everett's marina facility which is currently beyond is economic useful life. The project will enhance the military value of NS Everett which does not possess a small craft fuel dock of its own and relies exclusively on the Port's marina for refueling Navy security boats and other small naval vessels. Enables a Wichita State University National Institute for Aviation Research led project to strengthen the national security innovation base by expanding high and ultra-high temperature material characterizations, capabilities, process tools, sustainment planning, workforce, and engineering competencies for the purpose of accelerated weapon system prototype development. The South Kansas Defense Manufacturing Community National Defense Prototype Center consortium will leverage existing regional specializations in aerospace supply chains to create a regional industrial base with stable sources of critical materials, access to test facilities and broad availability to test results, access to proprietary processes for small businesses, robust engineering, technical and trades workforce, and verified design tools and techniques. Enables a North Carolina State University Industry Expansion Solutions led project, operating in the area of advanced textiles/autonomous wearables, to implement a holistic strategy to addresses both immediate ramp-up needs (as businesses transition out of COVID-19 restricted operations) and longer-term technological opportunities. By better alignment and leveraging of existing resources, the NC Defense Manufacturing Community Support Partnership consortium will support the survivability, performance, and lethality of warfighters and warfighter systems and increase the collective capacity of North Carolina manufacturers to respond to DoD modernization priorities in this critical interest area. Enables a University of Tennessee at Knoxville led project to address machine tool vulnerabilities that impact U.S. defense manufacturing, national security, and economic prosperity. The Southeastern Advanced Machine Tools Network consortium three-part organizational model for new technology research, workforce development, and communication will produce next-generation machine tools and smart manufacturing processes; create an education and training pipeline to recruit and prepare the future workforce needed to operate these new technologies; and, integrate academic, government, and corporate partners to translate these advances into industry leadership and economic impact. Enables a Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station led project to inject targeted Smart Manufacturing skills and technologies into the diverse manufacturing portfolio of the Texas defense aerospace manufacturing ecosystem to respond to current and future DoD needs including industrial surge production capability requirements. The Texas Defense Aerospace Manufacturing Community consortium will implement a three-phased, ten-step approach that delivers an initial set of twelve regional offerings that produce outcomes in the four critical areas of workforce development; structured networking and supply chain development; policy and economic development; and research and infrastructure.
