MacDill Air Force Base
Installation Readiness
$34,393.00
This supplemental funding supports the original grant effort to enable the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council to conduct a Military Installation Resiliency Study related to regional resilience standards and response actions. The project has concentrated on the impacts of extreme weather events and other threats to critical infrastructure adjacent to MacDill Air Force Base. The area has a history of increasingly severe hurricanes which exacerbate vulnerabilities caused by the installation's low elevation and location on a peninsula in Tampa Bay. The study complements the community's Regional Resiliency Action Plan actions, and the City of Tampa's ongoing examination of land use changes necessitated by projected flooding and transportation challenges. The region is increasingly vulnerable to the compounding hazards and threats posed by sea-level rise, the increasing frequency and magnitude of tropical systems, and recent increases in extreme rainfall. The final plan will provide recommendations for how to replace the outdated facilities with modern, sustainable and storm resilient wastewater treatment infrastructure to sustain the installation mission and supporting community. Fiscal Year 2023 Award
