Rock Branch Warehouse
Defense Community Infrastructure Program
$400,000.00
Enables the West Virginia Military Authority to construct new physical security infrastructure at the Rock Branch Warehouse, a joint-use facility that supports the National Guard, the United States Navy and several state agencies. This project enhances both physical and surveillance security on site with additional surface improvements. The project will provide additional security for prepositioned supplies and food to be used during domestic operations and emergency response, as it was during the COVID-19 response. Enables a University of Illinois led project to launch a Casting, Forging, and Energy Storage Center of Excellence. The Center of Excellence will focus on the core need for long-term manufacturing investments such as technology, workforce skills, and market growth. The project will work to enhance the capacity and expand the capabilities of small and medium sized manufacturers in the region. Activities will include engaging in outreach, networking, and teaming to identify and pursue new sales and supply chain diversification opportunities, as well as technical assistance, training, research, and data analysis. Enables an SAE Government Technologies led project to conduct the rapid testing, demonstration, and validation of a framework to accelerate the development of domestic critical mineral supply chains. Through the implementation of new modular, advanced, and highly selective separation technologies, the consortium will utilize mine and industrial waste to build a fully capable domestic supply chain and trained workforce that requires no new mining and no foreign processing. The project will achieve a sustainable manufacturing supply chain for scandium within three years in the five-state region of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Enables a Mississippi Department of Employment Security led project to increase the current and future workforce of the Mississippi defense shipbuilding ecosystem to respond to DoD needs including industrial surge production capability requirements. The consortium will deliver workforce development activities through K-12 and community college programming; advanced manufacturing workshops and transition programs; research and infrastructure; and industrial modernization efforts focused on improving worker safety. Enables a New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Partnership led project to strengthen the supply chain capability of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center, which accounts for 90% of the Army's lethality and all conventional ammunition for joint warfighters. The New Jersey Consortium will focus on workforce training, retraining, and recruitment and retention, with a unique emphasis on engaging veterans and military personnel and their family members. Five new registered apprenticeships will be established and over 1,200 individuals will complete industry-valued training. The project will identify opportunities for nontraditional defense manufacturing firms to fill key advanced manufacturing technology needs. Fiscal Year 2022 Award

Enables a University of Rhode Island Research Foundation led project to make long-term investments in the capabilities of small and medium businesses and the future workforce of the Rhode Island defense shipbuilding ecosystem. The consortium will implement a three-pronged approach to strengthen DoD supply chain companies by: expanding and optimizing the capabilities, capacities, and resources available through the consortium; providing cyber resiliency education, training, and capital investment programs; and providing automation and robotics education, training, and capital investment programs.
